Macintosh Accessibility Applications Quick Reference
CloseView and Easy Access are accessibility applications that are built-in to the MacOS (System 7.X & 8.X). They can easily be turned on and off from within the system control panel.

Easy Access
CloseView can magnify all screen images (e.g., text, graphics, menu bars, and cursors) up to 16 times their normal size. It can also be set for inverse video mode text appears white on a black background, instead of black on white.
- Start CloseView by clicking the “on” button in the CloseView Control Panel a black rectangle will appear on the screen.

Start magnification by pressing the “on” button in the Magnification box.
- The degree of magnification can be adjusted by pressing the arrows in the
Magnification box the size of the black rectangle changes.
- Change to reverse video mode (i.e., white text on a black background) by clicking the White-on-Black button.
- Turn magnification off by clicking the “off” button in the
Magnification window or by pressing Command-option-X.
- Turn off the CloseView application, removing the magnification rectangle, by clicking the main “off” button or press Command-Option-O.
StickyKeys can hold down keys during times when two or three keys must be pressed simultaneously (e.g., typing a capital letter, a question mark or certain other symbols). This keylatch feature is a helpful tool for individuals with mobility and systemic impairments who cannot press more than one key at a time.
- Press the Shift key 5 times to turn on StickyKeys. A sound effect and a small icon of an empty bucket in the upper right hand corner of the menu bar indicate that StickyKeys is active.
- After pressing a modifier key (e.g., Control, Option, Command, Shift), an arrow pointing into the bucket indicates that the key just pressed is resident in memory.
- StickyKeys can also be used when multiple modifier keys must be held down simultaneously (e.g., Eject floppy disk = Command-Shift-1).
- Press the Shift key 5 times to turn StickyKeys off.
MouseKeys allows all mouse movements to be controlled using the numeric keypad. This utility is useful for individuals with mobility and systemic impairments who are unable to use a standard mouse or trackball.
- Press Command-Shift-Clear to turn on MouseKeys. A zipping sound indicates that MouseKeys has been activated.
- Use the numeric keypad to direct mouse movements:
