ISSUE:

Animations cannot be directly accessed by users of screen-readers, language translation applications, some hand-held devices and browsers that do not support animations or have picture-loading disabled. As with static images, alternative text must be included for each animation. See "ALT Tags" for more information.

ALT tags may not be adequate for animations used to convey information. Some alternatives for conveying the information are as follows:

  • Convey all of the information in the text body of the document.

  • Use the animation as a link to a complete text description of the information being conveyed.

  • Provide a separate link to a complete text description of the information being conveyed.

STANDARD:

  • Include alternative text for all animations.

  • Alternative text for animations shall be clear, concise and informative.

  • If an animation uses audio to convey information, a text equivalent of the audio portion shall be provided.

EXAMPLE:

<img src="../Graphics/bobbletest.gif" height="175" width="125" border="0" alt="Bobble-head Goldy Gopher with head bobbling left and right."> Bobble-head Goldy Gopher with head bobbling left and right
