Non-Link Graphics
ISSUE:
Images can be a tremendous aid in the understanding of page content for visitors with learning disabilities, cognitive impairments and those whose native language is not that in which the page is presented. Select images carefully and provide a clear, complete and concise alternative text description. See "ALT Tags" for more information.
Transparent graphics and other images (e.g., bars, borders and other objects) are sometimes used for spacing and layout. The alternative text for these graphics is an opportunity to provide a description of the subsequent information or controls on the page (e.g., alt="Beginning of Site Navigation Controls" and alt="End of Site Navigation Controls").
STANDARD:
- Alternative text for images that convey information or otherwise contribute to the understanding of the page shall be clear, concise and informative.
- Where appropriate, use the alternative text for transparent graphics and other structural images to provide a description of subsequent information and controls on the page.
