Controls and Latches
ISSUE:
A user with a mobility impairment may have difficulty accessing and/or manipulating some controls. Controls which are located at the rear of a device or otherwise require an extended reach may be inaccessible by a user in a wheel chair or a user with upper-extremity limitations. Some users may not possess the strength or dexterity required to operate latches or controls that require a tight grasping or twisting motion. Operations or procedures that require the simultaneous manipulation of two controls or latches may be inaccessible to users who do not have full function of both arms/hands.
STANDARD:
- Provide at least one mode that is operable with limited Reach, strength and/or dexterity.
- Provide at least one mode that does not require simultaneous actions.
- Provide at least one mode that does not require a response time. Alternatively, a response time may be required if it can be by-passed or adjusted by the user.
